22 Days Without a Kitchen

This didn't just begin April 22, 2013. I've beenmentally working on a new kitchen design since moving into my little stone house eight years ago. When my change jar chi-chinged the magic number, I sped down I-79 to the nearest Lowes to begin the odyssey of my French-inspired Wine Cafe Kitchen. The template for new counter top was complete, walls painted (after a three week battle of wall-paper removal --- NEVER wall paper if there is any chance at all that it is not a forever thing!), new rugs purchased, vanity clock hung, beautiful sink appliances to match my new chrome appliances,  new wine rack installed...I am READY for my new kitchen. But my kitchen wasn't ready for me. Today I am playing hooky once again from work to be at home while installers try to pieced together a counter top that should have only taken about 45 minutes to install the first time. Because I have no counter top, I have no sink. (That is another horror story in itself, and I promised my husband that

I am one proud author!

This morning a colleague met me at the door to ell me that she started reading Abby, last night and could not put it down. She fell asleep with it in her hands. She is the second adult to tell me this. Since my intended audience is YA, this makes me feel very, very good about my story. She has Raspberry Beret and will probably begin reading it this evening upon finishing the first book. She cannot wait to get a copy of Opening Pandora's Box - The Conclusion and am very anxious to provide it for her. The more I think about my three novels . the more I love what I have done. It's not every day we realize that one of our life's goals has come to fruition. I hope my words inspire young girls to make good decisions as well as appreciate the good I life. Check out Abby, Raspberry Beret and Opening Pandora's Box on Amazon. I am one proud author!

So...I received a box of Opening Pandora's Box  today, opened it, and am now afraid to look at a copy. After all the editing, the proofing, the repairing; all that time that James poured into the revisions over the summer; my procrastination to get it out there; what if after all that I find a glaring mistake right on the first page? I am not sure I can tolerate it. So...instead, I look at it across the room and  am happy with the stark white cover that really epitomizes the theme of the story. I am glad that I at the last minute decided to minimize the decor of my original cover. Since this is  the story of a young person climbing out of the very pits of depression, I can think of no better design than this blankness to reflect the numbness that surrounded her. So...the cover is good. In fact, the cover is genius. My last reading of the manuscript brought me to tears. I really like the story. I am sorry to no longer have Abby in my every waking thoughts and she will always be my f

Spring Break Hell

Sooooo....   I spent over 30 minutes on the phone with my favorite hardware store to bash this morning trying to find a standard sized sink that really will fit in the standard sized hole in my almost installed counter top, only to learn that the damaged sink I exchanged yesterday for a standard sized replacement that did NOT fit in the standard sized hole in my almost installed counter top. After procuring a nice price reduction in the damaged sink I prepared to return to the store but then was told that the damaged sink had been destroyed that morning since it was damaged. REALLY? No. I believe that the damaged sink was taken home by someone else for a discounted price. But, I am not going to impose my conspiracy theory mindset on innocent store employees. Instead, I traveled to the store to be told that they had nothing to address my situation. The computer system was not working and locating a new sink was going to be a challenge. Hello! Is God throwing me more than I can catch? No way! Bring it on!

It is a bittersweet moment. My journey will be complete in a matter of ours when Opening Pandora's Box is submitted for publication on Amazon. I think I like this trilogy conclusion the more I read it. Maybe now I will have moire time for this blog...yea right...I am SO terrible at keeping up with my blog. I think it's because it's like talking to myself, which I do all the time without having to download and fight the pop ups. At least with the finalization of this third book I can view Spring Break 2013 as a success. My kitchen renovation has become  nightmare. The counter top does not "fit" so I have two huge holes where counter top and sink should be. We decided to drop the in the sink and hook it up, not knowing how long we would be without. Guess what?! The new sink is DENTED. So, now I get to do something I am NOT good at and that is arguing. I have to call Lowe's this morning and waste most of my day haggling with them. Sorry...I hate to publicly bash
